Artist Painter, Nayda Cuevas
Simple like the people she portrays in her paintings, Nayda paints us her short existence with the same precision she moves her brush over the canvas. Born in Hato Rey PR, this young artist creates art that will keep alive our culture. She photographs puertorican cultural events of dance and music and finally lays it out on canvas making us feel with the vibrant colors the sound of the instruments and the movement of our famous dances. As a dancer herself, she is intrigued by the movement of the body in different types of dance; Tango, Salsa, Flamenco, Bomba, Plena, and Jazz. The Congas and the Cuatro fill her spirit and move her hands to paint. The human figure is her greatest challenge and being able to capture the person’s likeness on canvas. Nayda’s satisfaction is seeing joy in her paintings and the joyous respond from the viewers.
Nayda Cuevas has traveled to Italy, Germany, and New York to compliment her training. She has exhibited in Florida Galleries such as Mount Dora Center of the Arts, Armory art Center in West Palm Beach, Harris House in Dayton, and Duncan Gallery of Art in Deland. She has also exhibited in El Museo de Caguas and Hunter College in Manhattan. She has studied at the Student Art league in NY, Savannah College of Art and Design, and La liga de Arte en PR. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Stetson University in Deland Florida.
